Based on the 1930's The Farmer’s Wife Sample Quilt Blocks
The quilt and book are based on letters from farmers' wives to the "Farmer's Wife Magazine" in the 1930's. The winner of the quilt will receive an original copy of this magazine from 1936. The author of the book selected the letters and matched a block to the letter. The letters are reprinted in the book along with pictures of the block chosen for that person. They create a picture of the time and what the people were going through. Batiks were chosen to update the quilt while still giving a nod to the 1930's with the blocks. The book contains 99 blocks; 90 were used in the quilt. Members who made this lovely quilt are: Carolyn Bowden, Bonnie Chovanetz, Pam Gantz, LaNelle Herron, Sharon Gunnels, Sheilah Kosko, and Lee Pierce. Quilted by Mona Levingston.
Hi all--happy September!
Don’t you just love fall? And I love football! It’s my favorite program to have on tv while I’m stitching away : )
Before the Festival the Donation Quilt “Quilt-o-Meter” was at $1700. While everyone that stopped by our TVQG table really admired the quilt, ticket sales were not as high as I’d hoped. The good news is that we still have a few weeks before the drawing on September 15, so don’t stop buying/selling yet! The money we take in from donation quilt ticket sales is so important to our guild, helping to fund workshops and speakers, as well as giving back through our community outreach programs. I’m happy to get packets of tickets to you, or you can go to our website and buy thru PayPal. And finally I’d like to give a big personal thanks to all of you for not only taking our quilt to local guilds and shop hops, but for buying and selling too. You all are great!
Have a great month!
