
Purpose: The Trinity Valley Quilters’ Guild of Fort Worth, Texas (TVQG), in support of higher education, is sponsoring a $2,500 scholarship to be awarded to an undergraduate student residing in the State of Texas and studying in the field of Fine Arts at a Texas institution. The purpose of the scholarship is to defer the costs of tuition, books, and supplies associated with earning a degree. Students pursuing honor distinctions and whose honors project is related to the above disciplines will also be considered.
Criteria for Application: Any undergraduate student
residing in the State of Texas who is pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Fine Arts may apply. The student must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 with a 3.0 GPA in his/her major field. Students applying must demonstrate both financial need and merit in order to be considered.
Application Procedures: Applicants must submit the following:
- A one page cover sheet with name, contact information including address, phone number, and email address.
- A one page letter from the applicant describing an overall view of his/her field of study and the primary reason for applying for this scholarship.
- Two letters of recommendation confirming (a) the financial need of the student, (b) the merit of the applicant pursuing his/her degree in Fine Arts, (c) the commitment of the student in completing the degree requirements of the related major. These letters may come from former teachers/counselors or adults with knowledge of the applicant’s needs, etc., but may not come from family members. These should be mailed directly to the Scholarship Committee at the address below.
- An official transcript.
- Proof of acceptance to the college to be attending.
Applications must be postmarked by Thursday, July 1, 2010 in order to be considered for the $2,500 scholarship. The recipient will be notified of the award by the first of August, 2010. The recipient will also be posted on the TVQG website (www.tvqg.org). Although not required, the recipient is encouraged to attend a general meeting of TVQG.
The scholarship will be awarded in two phases: $1,250 for the fall semester and $1,250 for the spring semester. TVQG will send the scholarship award directly to the institution so that the funds are credited to the student’s account. The scholarship recipient is required to notify TVQG scholarship committee in writing along with a copy of the fall grade report to verify that the GPA requirements are met so that the $1,250 can be applied to the spring term.
