ANNOUNCES

A $2000 SCHOLARSHIP FOR

AN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT

Purpose.  The Trinity Valley Quilters’ Guild of Fort Worth, Texas (TVQG) in support of higher education is sponsoring a $2000 scholarship to be awarded to an undergraduate student studying in areas related to fiber arts, textiles, quilt making, design and/or apparel at various north Texas Institutions.  The purpose of the scholarship is to defer costs of tuition, books, and supplies associated with earning a degree.  Students pursuing honor distinctions and whose honors project is related to the above disciplines will also be considered.

Who May Apply?  Any junior or senior undergraduate student, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and who is pursuing a baccalaureate degree in areas related to fiber arts, textiles, design, and/or apparel may apply for the scholarship.  Students must demonstrate both financial need and merit in order to be considered. 

Application Procedures.  Applicants must submit the following:

1.      A one-page cover sheet with name, contact information including address, phone, and email address,

2.      Two letters of recommendation that 1) confirms the financial need of the student, 2) explains why the applicant merits being recipient of the  scholarship, and 3) includes a statement that the student is in their third or four year of study in their major, and 4) is committed to completing degree requirements for the related major,

3.      A one-page letter from the applicant that provides an overview of their area of study, and

4.      An official transcript. 

Applications must be postmarked by Monday, May 1, 2007 in order to be considered for the $2,000 scholarship.  The recipient will be notified of the award in late April or early May of 2007 by mail.  The recipient of the scholarship will also be posted on the TVQG web-site (www.tvqg.org).  Although not required, the recipient is strongly encouraged to attend a general meeting of TVQG (the third Friday of each month—meeting location available on the web site) so the membership can meet the scholarship recipient. 

The scholarship will be awarded in two phases:  $1,000 for fall 2007, and with verification that the 3.0 GPA requirement has been maintained, the second payment of $1,000 will be awarded for the spring 2008 term.  TVQG will send the scholarship award directly to the institution so that the funds are credited to the student account.  The scholarship recipient is required to notify TVQG in writing along with a copy of the fall 2007 grade report, that the GPA requirement was met so that the $1,000 can be applied to the spring, 2008 term.
