Rhonda’s Random Remnants: by Rhonda WeddleGreetings! I hope the arrival of our newsletter finds you enjoying a fine spring day. Time is flying quickly this year. With Easter coming early, it seems that everything on my calendar is moving too fast! Thanks for Heather Pregger for making our beautiful 2008 Donation Quilt. Karen O’Neill of Cabbage Rose graciously helped make this quilt possible with her generous donation. Please help is get this quilt out and about. If you belong to another guild and would be able to take the TVQG quilt to a meeting and sell tickets, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Motsy Fling to get this set up. The parking lot at Central Christian Church of the Arts District is getting a face lift. While we were meeting in March, large machinery was chewing up the surface to make way for some new construction. This will be an ongoing project for CCC, but I have been assured that there will be the same amount of parking spots as there were before they began. Glennis Bradley arrives at 8:30 at the church on guild meeting day to set up our meeting room. I try to get there early to help her set up. If you arrive early, please ask Glennis what you can do to help. Also, if you do arrive early, please be aware that we do not have security outside until after 9:00. The gentlemen who works for the church has several things he has to do before he can come watch over us. For your safety, please consider waiting until after 9:00 to arrive. That way we will know that there is someone outside watching our arrival and hopefully we can have the room and speaker all set up and ready to go when you arrive. Someone asked why we don't put information in the newsletter regarding how many open spots were left for the workshops. The count we have on the day Mary puts the newsletter together to the day you receive the newsletter changes. So, if you didn't sign up and would like to, please contact Mona Levingston. She will be glad to sign you up or put you in the waiting list. If you sign up for a workshop, may I ask a favor of you? If you find out that you cannot come, even the day before, would you please call Mona Levingston and let her know? We usually have a waiting list for our workshops and if you can't come we can usually fill your spot quickly. Don't feel that you need to find someone to fill your spot. We have members who want to take workshops and if these spots are offered to others (non-members) it isn't fair to our members. If you find that you are unable to come on the morning of the workshop, please call Mona to let her know that you are not able to come. We try to wait until everyone who has signed up has arrived and is ready to get started. If something has prevented you from coming, please let us know so we won't worry about you and can go ahead and begin the workshop. Our upcoming speakers are listed in the newsletter and on our website. There are yellow and hot pink bookmarks with the speakers listed on them. Take a book mark, in fact, take several to share with friends. We meet on the third Friday of each month for our guild meeting. Workshops are held the day before guild meeting from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the same room where we hold our guild meetings. Jeanne Childs is working on finding new homes for our soldier quilts. Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio is receiving fewer and fewer patients and no longer has a need for our soldier quilts. Jeanne is making contacts and we will share the new plan for where we will be sending our quilts. Several of you have asked why don't we send the quilts to Germany. Well, it is a matter of money and finding a group who wants the quilts. Our guild would be responsible for the postage, which we did not budget for. And, at this time, we do not know of an organization overseas asking for us to send quilts. Stay tuned for more news! Please remember that we have our short business meeting after our speaker. If you leave before we get to conduct our business meeting, you will miss out on valuable information. Make every effort to stay that extra 10 minutes so you will be in the know about all things related to TVQG. I’d like you to consider becoming a member of the TVQG Yahoo group. This is the quickest way to communicate urgent information. If you don’t know how to sign up, contact Barb Clark and she will be glad to assist you. If you don’t have a computer at home, you can access email at most public libraries. We don’t share recipes and gossip, just news we all need to know. If an illness or an emergency situation arises, we want you to be informed quickly. Here’s a little reference information regarding quilt sizes for the Quilt Show entries, challenge quilts and small quilt auction.
