COMMUNITY OUTREACH
01/21/2023
TVQG supports Fort Worth and Tarrant County community partners through the Community Outreach Committee. The information below outlines the organizations we work with and the support we provide.
Visit us at the Community Outreach table at our monthly Guild meeting to learn more about what we do, how you can be part of the group, and pick up project kits you can complete on your own and return as completed. We welcome you to join us at our workdays; check newsletter each month for details. We trust you will find a project that calls to you to create for the organizations we are involved in.
For more information consult our newsletter article or contact our Community Outreach Chair, Rachel McKenzie, at outreach@tvqg.org.
John Peter Smith Hospital – TVQG has a long history of providing baby quilts to JPS to support their neonatal and NICU units. The quilts enable JPS to provide support to several of their internal programs that they have developed. They have traditionally asked for baby quilts and flannel receiving blankets, and adult-sized lap quilts or blankets. Visit the JPS website and their sizing chart page to get information about items and sizes Other Opportunities To Serve | JPS Health Network.
Fort Worth Police Department – TVQG partners with the Fort Worth Police Department in several of their efforts to work with children, adults in shelters and the homeless. TVQG currently supports the following programs: Brotherhood for the Fallen, Cops 4 Kids, and Homeless Liaison.
In 2018 TVQG partnered with the Brotherhood for the Fallen whose mission is to send 2 uniformed officers to the funerals of police officers slain in the line of duty. TVQG has committed to assist the Brotherhood in their mission by providing quilts to the spouse/families of those Texas officers who were killed in the line of duty. These quilts have specific color requirements and we have fabric kits available for pickup at the Community Outreach table.
In 2020 we started working with the Cops 4 Kids program. Founded in 2003, the program has served over 5,000 disadvantaged children in the Ft. Worth community, by providing gifts to those children in local hospitals, scholarship opportunities, school supplies and social activities. Our school supply, pillowcase and toy drives benefit this worthy endeavor. TVQG also provides “goodie bags” that may include a quilt, stuffed animal, and/or children book. These bags are handed out by officers in the field when they encounter a child in an emergency that requires comfort.
Periodically, we will also collect items such as socks, toothpaste/toothbrushes, and hotel-size soaps and shampoos to benefit the homeless and elderly for the Homeless Liaison.
Meals on Wheels – TVQG supports this organization by providing placemats, lap throws, dining scarves, walker bags and other pertinent items to Meals on Wheel’s clients.
Roll Call – TVQG supports veterans through this organization which serves veterans of all military organizations and wars. TVQG presents patriotic quilts to veterans. Additionally, TVQG presents Gold Star Parents with a patriotic quilt.
