History

Trinity Valley Quilters’ Guild began as an idea hatched in the back room of a shop called The Quilt Box.  It was officially started in January of 1982 by a small group of women seated around long tables at the R.D. Evans Recreation Center. From those humble beginnings came a Guild that has grown to include hundreds of men and women.

Within a year, the members decided to display their work for the public and a small quilt show was mounted on tables at the Junior Achievement Building. That small display grew into an annual show, with hundreds of judged quilts, vendors, demonstrations, a mini quilt auction, and prizes. In 2017, Trinity Valley Quilters’ Guild  joined  with five other local quilt Guilds and the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo to form the North Texas Quilt Festival. That combined annual quilt show has been a continued success, and outlet for everyone’s quilting enjoyment!

By 1989, the membership was outgrowing not only their space but their focus. The women no longer met to work on their projects. Now they wanted to learn from nationally known teachers, increase their skills and teach others. The move to the Central Christian Church in June of 1984, offered room to grow and expand. During the next sixteen years, the Guild added Community Outreach Projects, an annual Donation Quilt, a Scholarship Program, and monthly workshops and speakers.

Our guild survived Covid in 2020 by holding our meetings virtually over Zoom. In early 2021, following CDC guidelines, we started meeting in person at a new location. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have bounced around since then, but have finally found a home at First Church of the Nazarene, 1301 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, TX.

Through all we remain committed to our various Community Outreach Programs including Brotherhood For The Fallen, which provides a handmade quilt for the family of law enforcement officers killed in action in the state of Texas, COPS4KIDS, ROLL CALL, JPS Hospital and Meals on Wheels.

The concept of the Guild by the founding members: Alvera Armstrong, Helen Bliss, Christine Carson, Sheila Mitchell, Janet Mulins, Betty Nuss, June Osborne, Pauline Rampy, Marci Ryan, Barbara Rothacker, Mildred Switzer and Laura Jean Wilkendorf, has far exceeded their dream. Trinity Valley Quilters’ Guild continues to manifest it’s original charter – to stimulate an interest in quilting, advance the art of making quilts and to be a gathering place for all people interested in the art of quilting.
